Series Review-The Lux Series;Obsidian #1, Onyx #2, Opal #3.

Obsidian
book 1

Obsidian (Lux, #1)

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

Onyx
book 3

Onyx (Lux, #2)

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Opal
book 3

Opal (Lux, #3)

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

****

I first have to say, the male model on these covers is HOT! He is exactly how I picture Daemon, from head to toe - YUM!

Now that that's out of the way, lets get down to business. I REALLY LOVE this series so far. I had never read any of Jennifer's work before, nor had I heard much about these books or any of her other previous works. I kind of went in blind with this one. A friend of mine had recommended these to me when I was down in a reading slump. And I have to say THANK YOU STACEY! These books really reminded me of why I loved to read. I was completely addicted from the start - these books literally came with me everywhere I went!

What I loved about these books was that the story was unearthly-unique, but yet you could still familiarise yourself with it at times. Katy, who is the main protagonist in these first three books, is actually a pretty hard-core book blogger - throughout these books there is also a few references to well known book blogging memes that Katy takes part in. Too me - at first - Katy comes off as an anti-social teenager, who isn't very interested in making new friends in the new place her mother has moved them too. And when she meets her neighbour - the totally drool-worthy, but insolent, Daemon Black - you can kind of see why. But her attitude mildly changes when she meets Dee Black - Daemons younger twin sister - who is extremely bubbly and friendly. The complete opposite of Daemon. In befriending Dee she gradually learns to tolerate Daemon and his hot/cold attitude towards her. Then when she accidentally learns their secret, her life and everything changes. Now the only way for her to try and live a semi normal life is to stay close to Daemon and help protect their secret.

I wasn't really into reading alien Sci-Fi series, and I was surprised by how drawn in I was by these. I love Jennifer L. Armentrout's writing. She knows how to add comedy and snark to stressful or crazy situations. I also especially love the chemistry between Daemon and Katy, even when they are at each others throats there is some present attraction. And when the sparks fly it can get pretty steamy. Who knew an E.T could be so HOT! Totally psyched for the next one!

My Review for 'Firelight' by Sophie Jordan

Book Description from HarperTeen:

A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.
Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

I had heard a lot of buzz and great things about this book many months before it had come out by other bloggers. And, I must say, it really did live up to my expectations. Firelight blew me away from beginning to end. It had the right amount of young-teen drama and peer-pressure for a YA book. But mixed in with that was also suspense, forbidden romance, confusion and rebelliousness which really drew me into this story.

I will definitely be getting my hands on the next books in this series! I need to know what happens next!

My Review for 'Last Sacrifice' by Richelle Mead

Book Description from GoodReads:

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose--for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back . . . and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?

Wow, what a terrific end to an absolutely amazing - and mesmerizing - series! When I first picked up this series I knew absolutely nothing about it, and when I started reading the first book, Vampire Academy, I was freakishly hook. And then having to wait for the next instalments was just pure torture. But now that it is at the end I find myself feeling sad and yet accomplished. Although it is the end of Rose's journey, it's not the end of this series. There is a spin-off series called Bloodlines, which is set in the same world but with different characters featured as the main ones.

I Finished this book within a day and a half. I just couldn't put it down until I had finished a chapter - and even then I found myself continuously reading three chapters later :S

All in all, I loved this series - the characters, the plot and the setting. I don't know if I will pick up the spin off series any time soon, but I will one day read Bloodlines too.

Vampire Academy Series:
